Riding Tips for Mini Dirt Bikes

Riding mini dirt bikes is the surest way to many hours of fun and excitement. No doubt about it. But, if you believe even for a moment that mini dirt bikes are toys that may be handled flippantly, you're in for a shock. Mini dirt bikes do not take kindly to improper or careless handling.

Before trying any stunts on mini dirt bikes, it is necessary to familiarize oneself with the riding basics.

1. Anyone riding a mini dirt bike needs to wear protective gear. This keeps the rider safe from injury in case of falls or accidents. The minimal gear that a rider requires includes helmet, shoulder pads, knee pads and proper shoes. The rider's first priority is to keep the body and bones safe.

2. It is important to match riding style to the skill of the rider. Amateur drivers have to be very careful with the bike as riding at high speeds can expose them to elevated risk of falls and accidents. If you are borrowing a bike from a friend, expect it to get scuffed up a little before you pick up the basics.

3. Amateurs who want to buy their own mini dirt bikes must look for a model that is not highly expensive. Two-stroke models are too powerful for beginners. A cheaper bike is easier to ride and offers the best platform for learning. Once the rider gains confidence, they can upgrade.

4. Mini dirt bikes are full of power. Do not be taken in by their modest looks. It is only natural for riders to pump the gas and reach top speeds. But beginners must abstain from overreaching as this can get quite dangerous.

5. Proper positioning is essential to ensure safety. Proper positioning is possible if one has chosen the bike correctly. The feet should touch the ground and the body should not be too far back. The rider should sit in the natural indentation formed by the seat where it meets the gas tank.

6. An expert rider masters the art of acceleration. As the bike surges ahead, the rider is thrown back a little. The rider counters this by pulling at the handles. This should not be the case. The backward forces must be leveled by pushing the body forward and down.

7. It is equally important to learn the art of braking. When applying the brake, the movement should not be transferred to the handle bars. As you begin to apply the brakes, squeeze the gas tank with your thighs so that your position does not change even while applying brakes.

8. Keep an eye on the conditions of the trail and change riding styles accordingly.
