Compressor Care

Air compressors have a variety of uses all the way from airing up a small bicycle tire to industrial applications. Oil keeps these machines running smoothly and extends the life of the machine. Taking proper care of the machine allows the owner the benefit of having the use of the machine much longer than a machine that is not taken care of properly. Air compressor lube also helps cut the cost of production for industries that are reliant on the machinery that makes their product or packages the products. Oil is a necessity to ensure efficiently running machines that will stand up to constant use or even occasional use by the average homeowner.

The Purpose

Compressor lube serves a multitude of purposes. The value of the machinery is increased in efficiency, whereby saving money due to replacements that are necessary periodically. The span of the life of the machine allows for the return on investment to be of more value than what the purchaser originally laid out for the machinery. This is important when the bottom line of a business depends on wise investing and wise machine maintenance. The compressor oil is the protector of the machine so it only makes sense to invest in quality compressor oil when purchasing the compressor oil that will be used over the life of the machine. Industries that depend on the functionality of the air compressor are fully aware of the value that compressor oil holds in relation to the consistent operation of the machinery.

Different Types of Compressor lubricant

Compressor lubricants are manufactured in units similar to other types of motor oil. The machine size and rpm's will determine the type or weight of compressor oil your machine will need to operate correctly. The variety of weights allow different sizes of compressors to run smoothly and tolerate different levels of heat and stresses. The industrial lubrication industry has developed many types of compressor oils to meet a variety of functional needs, both in the private sector as well as the industrial applications of air compressors.

In order to meet special needs in the industrial application of air compressors, machinery was designed to use synthetic compressor oil that allows for higher temperature levels and higher stress levels. Most home compressors will use 30W compressor oil. Thicker oils are used in industrial applications because a higher viscosity is needed for longer periods of operation.

Air compressor maintenance is very important to ensure that the machinery will operate properly and safely for a period of years. The manufacturer will give their recommendation as to what weight the particular machine you are using will need in order to extend the life of the machine as well as ensure the safe operation of the machine. There is no substitute for good compressor oil.
